maybe they're not "frequently asked," but here are answers
The "Big Day" Basics
What should I wear? Is there a dress code? Think "Smart Casual" or "Garden Party Chic." Gents will be comfortable in a suit or blazer. Ladies will likely opt for a spring dress. Whatever you decide to wear, be comfortable. (You don't have to go out and get a new dress - unless you WANT to go out and get a new dress.) If you want to wear those fun shoes or that colorful blazer you never get to break out, now is the time! (We triple dog dare you to dress in tuxes like Lloyd and Harry in Dumb & Dumber!)
What will the weather be like? April in Maryland is a bit of a wildcard! It could be hot or cold, rainy or dry, windy or not. Or it could be all of the above. Typically, Frederick sees highs around64°F and lows in the 40s. You will likely use street parking at both venues, so consider a jacket for the short walk from the car to the event area. And, just in case, bring along an umbrella. (That will guarantee that it will NOT rain!)
Will there be a "bride's side" and a "groom's side?" Nope. We're blending our families, so we want you to "pick a seat - not a side." We hope you consider sitting next to someone you don't know. Maybe you'll make a new friend. Maybe you'll meet the crazy aunt or uncle. Maybe you'll learn a family secret about Janelle or Marc (or tell one). You never know!
Getting Around & Staying Over
Where should I stay? We have a room block (see the room block page for more details). If you're looking for a higher-end hotel or want to be in the heart of the action, the Visitation Hotel is a stunning historic option right downtown.
Is there parking? New Market and Frederick are "park once and walk" kind of towns. There is a lot of street parking. (If the last time you parallel parked was when you got your driver’s license, you might want to put in some practice time to brush up.)
I am looking for a stroll in Frederick. Where should I go? There is so much to see and do in Frederick. If you want to wander without a plan, consider walking along Carroll Creek Linear Park in the center of town. There are plenty of restaurants and shops along the Creek. Or, take in the many eclectic stores along Market and Patrick Streets in the heart of the City.
The idea of shopping downtown is about as appealing as getting a root canal. I am more of a sports fan. What's in Frederick for me? The good news is that the Frederick Keys(a high-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles) play at Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium. They have a home stand that weekend against the Wilmington Blue Rocks. If you're looking for high-quality minor league baseball in a family-friendly and fun environment, this might be a good option. (Friday at 7 PM, Saturday at 6 PM, and Sunday at 3 PM)
What's on the Menu?
What’s on the menu? We’re skipping the formal "chicken or beef" sit-down. Instead, we have planned a family-forward event that breaks the "bride v. groom" formality in favor of friendship, family, and love. Food will be served family-style at each table. There will not be table numbers or assigned seating. Instead, we encourage you to meet someone new and celebrate the merging of our families.
Gifts
Are you registered for gifts? Honestly, we’ve already got two of everything! Your presence is the only gift we need. We just want to celebrate our wedding with our family and closest friends.
